Presented in a simple narrative style, these nine stories will stir children's imagination, while deepening their sense of social responsibility. As they travel to a world of castles, princesses and sultans, where marvels are sold in the markets, and animals or objects are potential friends, children are encouraged to creatively examine their actual environment.
Based upon the time-honored tradition of local story telling to transmit social and moral values, these stories strive to shape children's characters, as individuals or active members of the family and larger community. Positive qualities are stressed, such as courage, persistence, pursuit of truth, helping others and cooperation.
Salt and Pepper books, in conjunction with the tapes, are designed to strengthen children's reading and spoken skills from an early age by helping them to forge the relationship between text in its written and spoken form. The tapes are recorded in both classical and colloquial Arabic, thus enabling children to feel equally comfortable in both realms. Accurate grammatical structure and pronunciation are demonstrated through the voice of the well-known narrator, Abla Fadila.
